So so so good. Went on a whim with a friend. They said we'd have 5 minutes to order bcz they were going on a break in between lunch and dinner service and we said we'll make it work. So pleased they were willing to accommodate us. Everything was fantastic. Decor is so beautiful.

Best place to celebrate a birthday! Food is amazing! Very entertaining and the staff was very friendly. Service was fast as well

Restaurant was very clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly and made dinner an experience. Food was amazing. I had filet with chicken and would definitely reccomend!

We enjoyed our evening here! My toddler cleaned off his plate and I personally enjoy every protein we ordered as well as the fried rice. The chef made the steak exactly as we ordered (medium rare). It was so buttery and basically melted in your mouth. We did sake flights as well and we enjoyed every drop. It was a great quality sake. We had a memorable evening full of laughs. You can tell due to the lack of photos! We would be back time and time again.

This is the first time visiting Kumo and it did not disappoint. We called a few days ahead to place reservations for 7 of us for the hibachi side. If you are not wanting to participate in the live hibachi you can order from a menu at a regular table. Upon arriving we were promptly seated and asked if there was a birthday which it was mine and they went above and behind to make my day special. We did have 2 people join our table after we ordered our drinks and they were the perfect addition to our table. So be prepared to sit with people you don't know like other hibachi places however just embrace the newness it's not too bad especially once the hibachi show begins. Our server was outgoing and friendly. He kept up on our drinks both regular and alcoholic including shots after dinner. I personally shared the flaming volcano drink(I think was the name) menu said it was for 2 people honestly with the ice in it we both agreed it would be just fine for one person. The drink was well balanced and didn't taste like alcohol and could sneak up on you for sure The other drinks that were ordered were all great and tasted exactly as expected. The pink shot is a little strong but so good and definitely worth a shot . We ordered 3 different sushi options all were good and exactly as you would expect however the million dollar roll stood out the most. Even a non sushi eater enjoyed it. Spicy. Lobster tempura, topped with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, spicy mayo and eel sauce. That as copied directly from their website and let me tell you that lobster was huge for being inside of a sushi roll. Give it a try you won't be disappointed it's worth the 20$ for that one roll. From the regular appetizer side we ordered crab ragoon which was creamy and fresh one of the best I've ever had. We also tried yellow tail an it had fresh jalapeno on it you tell the fish was very fresh Each hibachi meal is served with salad with a wonderful ginger flavored dressing. You also receive a soup and it was bland and not as good as others we've had. For hibachi the hibachi for 2 is the way to go if there's 2 people in your party that are wanting a variety. You don't share a plate or anything the chef just gives you your own full portion of everything on your own plate. The hibachi for 2 comes with shrimp and 2 additional shrimp that they give everyone, steak, chicken, lobster and scallops as well as rice and veggies. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection and was tender and juicy. 2 sets of 2 ordered this and we all took leftovers home which were amazing the next day as well. The only other hibachi that our group tried that I haven't already mentioned was the salmon and it was flaky and not too dry had a great seasoning on it. So for the hibachi show we were a little concerned at first as our chef didn't seem as upbeat and outgoing as others we had heard at other tables. However once he got started he was great. He also asked about birthdays and he immediately grabbed his squirt bottle and had me grab a napkin and was yelling Saki Saki and from behind the grill he squirted saki in my mouth and he didn't stop until my mouth was completely full now that was a shot and surprisingly it didn't taste too bad at all. Everyone at the table thought it was just water but they all quickly found out it wasn't as he went around the whole table and gave everyone a shot of it and then had a baby bottle with juice in for the minors to not feel left out. Then he took veggies and went around the table trying to get them in each persons mouth and he doesn't give up until you catch it. He also had the table sing happy birthday to me while he done a part of the show. Overall it was so much fun and we all laughed so hard. To finish the evening off they brought out chocolate ice cream and a candle and yet again had everyone sing to me. I highly recommend giving them a try for your next birthday celebration. Can't wait to return for another visit.

Came in for a late lunch after driving all over hell-and-gone (because I can't read a map), after an appointment that wasn't (because I can't read a calendar either). Sat at the sushi bar because I love watching the chef work (pity the glass was fogged, so I couldn't see). Pleasant, upscale-restaurant decor, a bit dimly lit. Sushi bar chairs comfy (rare occurrence). Seated promptly and courteously; given water immediately. (Wish they'd get rid of the plastic straws though. So rotten for the oceans, where so many of them end up.) Server and sushi chef conversed in Japanese -- always a good sign in a sushi bar. (I am a west coast sushi snob.) Server was prompt, friendly, and smooth at what he did. The lovely sushi chef gave us the most delightful little sushi appetizers gratis upon sitting down -- such an unexpected grace note. Tiny bite only, but beautifully put-together and presented. Also delicious. Lunch special: soup or salad (got miso soup, duh, which was the best I've had in a long time), plus three maki rolls of choice. I chose eel/avocado, Philadelphia, and white tuna. Ok -- here it comes: *was the best sushi I've had in Indianapolis.* As good as any sushi I've had since I left the pacific coast. High quality fresh fish, wrapped in perfectly bite-sized tight rolls with exactly the right amount of rice and balanced ingredients, with a beautiful presentation. And all for $15! Just because, I ordered a nigiri saba (mackerel) to top off lunch, even though my appetite was perfectly satisfied... was so good I could cry. Melt-in-the-mouth tender, marinated just enough to balance the fishiness of this oily fish... and briefly seared with a crème brûlée torch. Perfect. Best I've had in almost two decades. I'd forgotten what real sushi tasted like, almost. I won't get sushi anywhere else in Indy. I'm still smiling.

My family and I recently had another fantastic experience at Kumo Japanese restaurant, a place we frequent for special occasions. The chicken and steak hibachi, despite having varied preferences at our table, tasted amazing and was cooked very well. The chef was experienced and you could tell by the way he interacted with our table. We were not only treated to a delicious meal but also entertained by him, keeping the atmosphere lively for our group celebrating birthdays. Sake shots, served in baby bottles added a humorous and memorable touch. We ordered the hibachi noodles for the first time and I would recommend them! They were a great addition. The attentive service and inviting atmosphere at Kumo never disappoints, making each visit thoroughly enjoyable.

My sister, friend and I came here for a new years dinner. My sister called in the afternoon of and was able to make reservations. They seated us almost on time which was great considering how busy they are. We all ordered the steak and shrimp. Service was friendly and efficient. The only service issue we ended up having was lack of drink refills while the chef was cooking. Our hibachi chef was hilarious and so entertaining. Our table was cracking up. We were all adults so he played off the atmosphere well. The food tasted great and was all cooked to perfection. The only food issue we had is the menu mentions the meals come with 2 appetizer shrimp and no one received those. Also my friend found a hair in her soup but the restaurant fixed the situation. The restaurant was clean and well kept. I would suggest visiting here again. For some reason the tip was already added onto our bills even as a party of 3 which was a bit annoying.

This is a fairly typical Japanese steakhouse. Hibachi tables or sushi bar. It's great entertainment for adults and kids alike and the food is good. It's also surprisingly quick. But the real separator is the bar selection. So many Japanese restaurants in Indianapolis fail to leverage the Japanese whisky culture. Kumo fully embraces it and has more than just Suntory available. Great options and at a reasonable price. I might come back just for the bar to work through their whisky selection. They also have multiple plum wines and they have a plum wine flight so you don't have to choose just one.
